Productive Weekend

It's been a productive weekend, but not in the ways I had hoped it would be. I've been super busy at work with a grant application to acquire property and develop a facility to house start-up businesses. I'd also promised Joey at Joey's Fly Fishing Foundation to write a grant application for general funding, as well as promised to write grants for him until funding was found to hire a full-time business manager for his foundation (he desperately needs a business manager, and Kurt desperately needs a job that doesn't work him to death, so tada!). I've got a draft of the grant application, pro forma budget and revenue recapture plan in place for the work grant, and turned in an application for funding for Joey's on Friday, both of which were huge hurdles cleared toward productivity.

So, I tried to keep the momentum rolling this weekend so I could get a few projects finished this weekend. I was productive this weekend, but not how I had expected to be. I started Saturday at 6 am, having baked blueberry muffins the night before. Joey was taking some kids fishing early Saturday morning, to catch the first of 4 sub-species of trout as part of Wyoming's Cutt-Slam program. Joey works with a lot of troubled youth, underprivileged kids, kids from broken homes. Kids that don't eat breakfast. So, I made homemade muffins for the kids and delivered them to Joey at 6:45 am, before the gang hit the road at 7 am. I did get an added bonus of seeing Kurt, as he was going along to film the kids as a news story. :) He was impressed that I was up that early on a Saturday morning, and that I was doing something nice for the kidlets.

Afterward, I came home for a bit, did dishes, worked on meeting minutes, and waited for Ben to wake up so we could run errands and grab Baldric. We went to the Farmers Market, picking up some lovely cucumbers, radishes, corn on the cob, green beans and homemade saurkraut from the Huderites in Montana (they're like the Amish of Montana). We also picked up some herbs, as the greenhouse holding the Farmers Market was having a huge sale. $.50 herb plants--we picked up 4 basil (5, because one broke), sage, thyme, rosemary, and oregano. Yum. Even if the plants all die, at least we didn't waste a lot of money. :) And then we stopped by Janelle's house to pick up the cat food that she grabbed for me when she was in Billings, and borrowed some garden tools. Grabbed Baldric and his things and moved him in. While Baldric was getting settled, we planted our herbs in our backyard. So, I now have my cat living with me, and things growing in our backyard. Things that I planted myself. We'll see how that goes.

We made a lovely dinner of roasted green beans and a salad of cucumbers and radishes in a vinaigrette, plus finished off the rest of the fresh cherries we had in the fridge with some mango sorbet. I did some more work work and went to bed. Slept in Sunday, but was intending to revise the grant application and budget materials when I woke up. Instead, Ben and I went to the arts festival at Sheridan College and then to the polo game this afternoon. Followed by Baldric snuggles, laundry (I have a full-size washer and dryer, and I can operate both simultaneously--one load of laundry can be complete in 1.5 hours instead of 5!) and more laundry, bill sorting and filing and paying, cleaning the bathroom, and more dishes. I have not worked on the grant application at all. I also didn't hang any of the artwork in the apartment, nor go shopping for furniture (I need a mattress and box spring and bedframe, a sofa, and a comfy chair of some sort, plus more lamps). I didn't make bread. I didn't make lasagna. I didn't make pizza dough. These were the things I wanted to accomplish, but I still had a great weekend. And I got Kurt hugs and snuggles on Saturday morning, which was awesome. All in all, not a bad weekend.
