![]() Friday, February 06, 2009 New Years Resolutions I actually did make one New Year's Resolution this year, and I've already accomplished it. Sort of. My resolution was to go to the doctor's office when I wasn't dying or sick. So I did that on Thursday morning. I now have a list of appointments, tests and procedures that I have to complete. I had an x-ray of my back Thursday to further investigate chronic back pain. Good news--I don't have arthritis or disc problems; bad news--I have boobs that will need to be reduced soon. In the meantime, I'll be doing physical therapy to help reduce the strain on my back. I had a ton of bloodwork today. Gotta check the kidneys and liver and cholesterol and thyroid and glucose and cell counts and whatever else you can test blood for. I asked my co-worker to chauffeur me to the lab, because I have a tendency to pass out. So, I'm sitting there in the chair, and I tell them that I may pass out. And I do. Before they get a sample. Apparently, I am a turnip. Well, until they put me on the cot laying down with my feet elevated so they could attack the other arm. I also have an appointment with women's health in March to discuss my crazy periods, which have been so since I was 16. My doctor asked if I was thinking of getting pregnant; I told him I was looking to get rid of a few vestigial organs. I'm really not looking forward to that appointment, because I know that's going to be a lot of poking and prodding, plus more bloodwork. But that can wait until March. In the meantime, I get to look forward to a colonoscopy on the 23rd. Whee! The only medical procedure where the prep is worse than the test. This is proof that doctors are sadists. The doctor thinks that I may have Crohn's Disease or ulcerative colitis. I've always joked that I poop too much, but I've been playing around with my diet with no success. Eliminating lactose and dairy, wheat, meat, and soy have changed nothing. That, and Mom has Crohn's and that's hereditary. Chances are good that I may have it, and I don't want it. I'll find out soon enough. I have been surprised at how quickly things have moved here--no waiting for referrals to specialists. When I went in for x-rays, I expected to make an appointment and come back, not to be taken back immediately. No waiting for bloodwork. Appointments made the same day of the referral. At least I'll get this over with pretty quickly, and then I'll have met my insurance deductable for the year. Woohoo! posted by jaime | 10:39 PM 7 comments |
