Friday, February 27, 2009 Finally! I finally managed to make it over to Sheridan College last night when the ceramics studio was open, and I picked up the bulk of my work from the class I took last semester. There are a few missing pieces--I'm not sure if its because they weren't bisqued when I left for vacation in December or if they were broken in firing. However, what I did pick up was amazing--we were putting on a presentation at the college, and several attendees (including board members) commented on my pottery. I'm really excited to start shipping it out to folks, so expect a package sometime in the next month or so (I'm shipping out 10 different pieces to different folks, so shipping will be done in stages so I don't have to give my kidney to FedEx for payment). I did keep a few pieces, including my Tiki Drinking God cup (although the bottom cracked and it is not usable for drinks) and the Bowl That Would Not DIE. (It's a really big bowl, but the height varies throughout the piece, the bottom is flat in spots, and one side is smooshed inward--I'm not sure how it survived to the bisque so I just tossed it in a random glaze and fired it, thinking it would crack and it didn't! And now I love it for it's total wonkiness.) Liz fell in love with another big bowl that I made, half yellow and half buttermilk--very traditional piece, and one of the most "professional-looking" pieces from the class--so she's claimed it. But the rest of it will all be shipped out, so it may be coming to you. In hindsight, this was one of the weirdest classes I've taken. It was a 10 week course, unlimited clay, but I didn't pick up many pieces. I would go into class and throw, usually finishing about 5 or 6 medium to large pieces in an hour or so. I remember that I was throwing things very quickly, and I threw some pretty large bowls and vases and mugs. However, for-credit students work took priority in firings, and it took forever for anything of mine to get bisqued. I think most of the pieces were bisqued right after I left for vacation and then cleared out during winter break after the for-credit class wrapped up. However, if I can keep up that kind of throwing momentum--mehe. :) posted by jaime | 12:49 PM 2 comments |
