Monday, October 20, 2008 More Fluff? It's been almost two months since I've posted any substantial update and I figure I should remedy that before someone thinks I'm dead. :) Things have been busy as usual. Summer is over and every Indian summer day is being counted as one of the last good days of the year. Its been a whirlwind summer, and I've been reflecting on everything that's happened this first full year in Wyoming. I'm also pondering two of the big birthdays coming up--29 (the last hurrah before the big three-o) and 30 (the new 20--sounds lame). I've had some great adventures, but I'm tired of being in debt. I'm tired of having a roommate (Liz is a dear friend, but when I came back from a week in Cheyenne, I thought our apartment had been converted to a landfill--she's a MESS!). I'm tired of Baldric having a separate residence than me. The reality of life is that I need to significantly increase my earnings if I'd like my life to meet my expectations of things at 30. I've cut my expenses as far as they will comfortably go as well as picked up several odd jobs to supplement my income. I either need to get a substantial raise at my current job or find another job that pays much better. I've had a few offers that are appealing, but none that would give me the pay jump that I'm looking for. I love my job, but it's maddening to work so hard for so little. My boss makes $100K, not including perks like a company car, Blackberry, full health benefits for himself and his family; he can't tell you how he spends his time in a typical day, where I have so many different things happening, I have to carry a daytimer at all times to keep track of myself. I'm not looking to settle down, but I'd like to have enough money to travel more extensively (what good is 17 vacation days and comp time if I don't have money to go anywhere fabulous?), rent a place sans roommate, pay off student loans and credit cards. That may not happen tomorrow or next month or next quarter. It may take another 6 months to a year to find the right job opportunity at the right pay. But I've got my eye on the big three-o looming, and I'm motivated. I want my life to be as fabulous as I am when I hit that next decade. In other fabulous news, I fixed the toilet in the apartment. Our toilet is original to the apartment, and requires a bit of a gentle touch. Liz has broken no less than 6 toilet seats in the apartment, as the bowl sits higher than the back where the bolts attach. I've become very proficient at replacing the toilet seat. However, when I was away, Liz broke the fill level thing--she slaps at the handle when she flushes, and that means the flapper moves around on the end of the chain. The flapper had warped, causing the toilet to leak a bit. But when I was gone, she also broke the fill thing--it would fill up past the overflow mark and then the water would run. I replaced both pieces in the toilet and it's working again. Woohoo! (I'd say we should replace the toilet, but it has character. And it never clogs. Ever.) posted by jaime | 7:33 PM 0 comments |
