Monday, October 29, 2007 Conference Updates I'm currently sitting in Great Falls, MT, after an interesting evening out with economic development people (after a long day of uninteresting overviews of economic development). Sometimes I feel like Carmen Sandiego--where in the world am I this time? (Gotta keep you people on your toes.) Things have sort-of settled down here in Sheridan. I finally have my closet unpacked and in order. It only took 2 trips to K-Mart and at least 5 trips to Wal-Mart. Who knew I'd need more than 100 coat hangers? What's ironic is that after I made the final run to Wal-Mart for more hangers, my parents called to say that they finally shipped out the hangers that I forgot to pack. Grrrr. But, hey, I just need to purchase more clothes so I can use those hangers. :) Work is still fabulous--things are incredibly busy, though. We're updating our website (YAY for research!), which has meant days of inputting data and charts and hyperlinks, and even more hours backtracking after my boss to embed links into text--she had them all in parentheses at the end of her data. We're also rolling out our strategic plan to the community next week, so now is a super time to be at a conference in Great Falls. :) It gets better; the day after I get back from my conference, my boss leaves for a conference in St. Louis. I am using my time out of the office to get organized though--it was easier to pack up the office and bring it with me than trying to organize while at work. Other updates--I got a haircut. To go with my butt-enhancing fancy jeans. The cut is fabulous; I'll try to post a picture somewhere sometime. I also have a consultation for make-up this Friday; it's time to put a little more effort into my appearance. I don't want to spend 1/2 an hour getting ready, but I can spend 5 minutes each morning with some make-up. It won't kill me. I may be proven otherwise on Friday. And, no, I'm not trying to find a man. I don't want one. I'm trying to be more of a professional-looking professional. Economic development is a public endeavour; although most of the work that my company has done has been behind the scenes, we're at the point where our strategic plan and all of it's initiatives are going live. Meaning that initiatives are going to turn into action, and that's what I'll be managing actively. With 11 task forces, 3 industry clusters, county and city government, businesses and local organizations, and our board of directors, I need to present a professional face to the public. That means business attire, a decent haircut (one with style), and make-up. It means looking like an adult. And, yes, I'm sure I can fake you all out! Because we all know an adult is something that I am not. But hey, if I ever grow up, smack me. posted by jaime | 9:54 PM 1 comments |
