Wednesday, April 04, 2007 And They All Awaken From Hibernation So it seems that everyone is waking up from their blogging hibernations to post fresh musings and thoughts and such. Hooray! I'm overdue for an update, so I'm copycatting with the rest of the gang. First, contrary to popular belief, I'm not dead. I just live at work. And, yes, there is internet access. However, when I really don't have time to do things like eat lunch or pee, I'm not going to be blogging. So, here is your confirmation--I am indeed alive. If you need to reach me, contact me at work like the rest of the screaming masses. My schedule has been quite the crazy lately; I've been working 12 to 13 hour days, 6 days a week, and generally going in to the office on Sundays for a few hours also. I've been doing this since mid-March. No, I'm not taking my workaholic nature and combining it with masochism to create some new form of self-torture. I'm now the customer care manager for Gladhill, Bassett Frederick, and Bassett Rockville. Actually, I should clarify that a bit further--I'm the entire customer care department for Gladhill, Bassett Frederick, and Bassett Rockville. As such, I'm claiming the manager title to feel a little bit better about the extra workload. The manager that started with me when I moved to customer care was pulled back into her previous position as warehouse office manager. I was left with the workload of the entire department. After two weeks, they did give me a temp to help out; however, my temp can't handle those lovely screaming, so angry they are going to explode, they want their entire furniture purchase free plus a full refund and it better be perfect customers (which are the majority). They have finally hired two newbies to replace me in customer care; they started training at the stores this week. Next week, I get to start training the two newbies, and they take away my temp. My desk looks like a tornado struck, my inbox is an abyss, and I don't remember what the outside looks like anymore. But my resume is kickass! And, because with my infinite psycho powers, I can sense your next question--no, I have not received a raise. I have not received extra benefits or vacation time or bonus or any sort of compensation for my newfound insanity. I know--I'm worth a hell of a lot more. I was offered a 50% pay raise to stay in Maryland and keep my job, but I said no. (I know if I said yes, I would have to sign a contract locking me into a year of work and if I broke said contract and moved, I would have had to return any amount of payraise paid to me. Also, I don't want the owner of the company thinking that I can be bought.) However, when I leave the company to move to Florida in June, Mr. Owner and President will know exactly how much I am worth to his company. (That sentiment is almost worth it. Did I mention that my resume is kickass?) In other less depressing news than job=life, I did sign up for a bellydance class. It starts tomorrow. It runs 8 to 9 pm (I can make it after work!) and I'm uber-excited. I may finally find some rhythm and cast off my old "white girl, I can't even clap along to a beat" ways. posted by jaime | 8:09 PM 0 comments |
