Merry Christmas

A wee bit behind schedule.

I had a most enjoyable Christmas. I spent the evening of the 23rd hanging out at Greg & Whit's WTX extravaganza. Ian and I headed back to Frederick that night, as we had both been up uber-early on Saturday, and we wanted to sleep in a bed and not on a floor. Ian and I exchanged presents on Christmas Eve, as by that point, I had run out of patience--it's hard for me to buy presents and not immediately give them and have the recepient open them. Ian got a ton of clothes--sweaters, shirts, pants, dress shirts, ties, a wool peacoat, and silver penguin cuff-links--plus a coffee maker! Cuisinart has come up with the most ingenious coffee maker ever--it brews two cups of coffee into two travel-size thermal mugs. One for Ian and one for me! :)

Ian surprised me yet again this year--I am now the proud owner of a beautiful red Cuisinart food processor. No, it's not the biggest one--there is a 14 cup processor available in red, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. And this one is more red. Woohoo! I can now choppy choppy to my heart's content. No more crying when chopping onions. No more hunting for the ancient nut chopper and cleaning the rust off of the blades with steel wool prior to using it (and no more chopping of two pecans at a time because that's all it can hold). I'm excited. He also got me a copy of the latest Nigella Lawson cookbook--Feast. An exercise in cooking mass quantities of food, or, as Nigella says, recipes for celebrating life. I've been reading through it, and oh, the numminess contained within--drool. She gives me lots of opportunity to use my new processor. I'm so far intrigued by the cranberry jam, roast goose stuffed with saurkraut, champagne risotto, and a recipe called "Bang Bang Turkey." How can you not want to try a recipe with the words "Bang Bang" in the title?

I also got to spend the evening of Christmas day with Ian's friends--got to meet all of his pals from high school, hear their tales of petty theft, vandalism, and general juvenille delinquent-isms. They've grown up, which is good, and remained friends after reaching maturity. They're a good bunch of friends for Ian, and I'm quite glad I got to meet them.

It was back to work on the 26th; however, I returned to only 3 messages. I'm not going to complain--I think I'm getting my part of the department under control. I'm caught up on phone calls to customers, caught up on parts orders, and I just need to clean through the warehouse to get whatever odds and ends merchandise that's in for customers delivered out to customers.
