Rollercoaster Weekend

Folks, it's been one hell of a weekend. Thursday, I woke up--sinuses congested and throat sore. That's not abnormal for me, queen of sinus troubles; I figured it was just fall allergies combined with my sinuses' normal hatred of me. However, as the day went on, things got progressively worse. My dinner plans with Ian turned into me watching him eat dinner. By the end of the evening, I couldn't breathe at all through my nose and my throat hurt so bad that I couldn't swallow, so I was drooling. Ian, wonderful guy that he is, took me to CVS in search of decongestants and tissues. After lots of snuggles and well wishes from him, I went home for the night. Friday, I wake up, still congested and throat still hurting. I started my morning routine--get out of bed, go to the bathroom, pee...that's as far as I got. Before I was done peeing, I was puking my guts up onto the bathroom floor. The need to vomit hit so suddenly that I didn't have time to reach over and grab the trash can. If you've ever had food poisoning, it was that kind of feeling--the 5 second warning that something is going to happen, and then the happenings feeling like they will never stop. That's how I felt.

Drastic measures had to be taken; there was no way I could function at work in the state that I was in without the intervention of a medical professional--I broke down and called the doctor's office. I will say for as much as I dislike going to the doctor's office, my doctor is amazing. They got me in that day, within 20 minutes of me calling. (Even more amazing is that they got me out in less time than it took for CVS to fill my prescriptions.) Lucky me, I had the flu, stomach flu, and a sinus infection all at the same time. And after the lovely abdominal palpation by the doctor (with a free spleen massage), a diagnosis, and several prescriptions, it was off to work for me. Amazingly, I was only about 45 minutes late for work. However, I didn't stay the whole day. I lasted about 3 hours before I had to leave--I could breathe thanks to the decongestants; however, pain just radiated through my body. I felt weak and nauseous, and the anti-vomiting medicine prescribed had a sedative effect, so it could not be taken at work. I left for home, slept for a bit, woke up and puked my guts out again, and slept for the rest of the night.

By Saturday morning, I felt incredibly good (yay for prescription drugs)--good enough to work and to visit with Ian later that night. However, Ian had caught my flu. Thankfully not the pukey flu, but still, the flu and it sucks. After pampering him and feeding him chicken noodle soup over the weekend, he's feeling a little better, and I'm back home. And still feeling good.

Even better though--I get home, pay some bills, read Audrey's blog about the 24th being Pirate Weekend at RennFest, and realize that I'm off work that day. Woohoo! Plus, I find out that Liz Phair is playing at the 9:30 club on October 12th, and tickets are still available. So, guess who has tickets to see Liz Phair? That's right. One for me, and one for some other person out there who wants to go see Liz Phair with me (no, not Ian, because he'll have to work the next day and can't be out that late at night). Anyone want to go to a concert with me?
