Monday, August 23, 2004 Life, In A Nutshell Damn, it's cramped in here...just kidding. :) It's been an adventurous week, this past week. Sunday the 15th, Garrett and I broke up. We just weren't getting along, weren't talking or communicating with each other very well. So, very early Sunday morning (or late Saturday night), we broke up and I left. But something changed that week; we agreed to think about what we wanted out of a relationship, and to meet the following Sunday to discuss things--see if we made the right decision. However, we couldn't stop talking to each other. Every night we talked, not just little stupid shit, but good conversations. Thursday we met up and agreed to get back together, knowing full well what the other person needs to make things work. I doubt that this is a permanent relationship; I don't ever see myself getting married and settling down. However, Garrett is a nice guy--the nicest guy I've ever dated--and there's something about being with him that I'm not ready to give up. Who knows...I think I've been put in almost every weird and odd dating situation imaginable, and I still don't know shit about relationships. I've also read a wonderful book these past few days--Pink Slip by Rita Ciresi. Here's the Amazon link, but please...ignore the plot summary and the pinkness of the cover. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0385323638/qid=1093319387/sr=ka-1/ref=pd_ka_1/102-4237207-1064946 It is truly an amazing book; I loved it. I discovered it accidentally at Wonder Book; I was looking for the literary equivalent of junk food, fluff writing, and I just grabbed this book, gave the back a quick skim, and bought it. I was in shock when I started reading it--the prose is tight, not a word is wasted and it gives this book a density that reminds me of London Fields by Martin Amis. The story and plot is amazing as well, a very intense story about falling in love when you've never experienced it before. It's not simply a love story; it is deeper than that. It's hard to explain, but the story itself reminds me of one of my favorite books Written On The Body by Jeanette Winterson--its the ideas and philosophies of love filtered through plot. I'm just amazed by this book, so read it. (And yeah, it made me cry...don't forget that I'll kick your ass if you laugh at that.) In non-relationship-y stuff, I will be dogsitting starting tomorrow. One of our clients is having surgery, so I agreed to care for her dog while she is in the hospital. She's such a nice person, and her dog has so much personality. It's going to be a fun time with the dog, and I hope that everything goes okay with her. If not, well, I'll have a new dog (plus a trust fund)...but I really do hope that doesn't happen. It'd just be one more thing for Baldric to beat up, and he doesn't need anymore ego than he already has. posted by jaime | 9:28 PM 0 comments |
