![]() Sunday, November 26, 2006 This Cookbook Was Written In Ten-Minute Increments I know I'm posting a lot of recipes; however, the only time I have to blog seems to be when I'm puttering in the kitchen. Can I get one of those blog to cookbook dealies? I think I post enough recipes to qualify. Even if I can't, at least it's giving me something to do while I'm waiting for the cookies to bake between batches. Yes, it's that time of year--Christmas Cookie Madness. I've got to pull together 5 cookie trays--one for each store and the warehouse, plus another for an all-store office meeting on the 14th. I think the cookie madness stems from this little picture that's in my head. I just want to pull up to a party/event/shindig in my station wagon, open the hatch, and just have cookies lined up from floor to ceiling in the back of my car. Neat little stacks of zippie bags of cookies, perhaps wire racks one on top of the other with cookie goodness. I think it would make someone faint. If I ever do that, that's a big freaking sign that I should be locked away in a little padded room somewhere. Or that I should be allowed to take over the Martha Stewart Evil Empire. So far, for the cookie-ing, I've got shortbread and sugar cookies done. I'm working on peanut butter now, and I'd like to at least get the dough made for cappuchino crinkles, snowglobes (think pecan sandies covered in colored sugar), and white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. I've still got chocolate chip peanut butter chip, oatmeal butterscotch, oatmeal toffee with chocolate chips, no bakes, and maybe another type or two thrown in. I've got some dark chocolate chunks that I can use, but no ideas yet for what to do with them. In non-culinary news, my boss has resigned from the company. I've got a new store manager to break in (and he is fully aware that he is only the puppet in this regime). The old boss found something else (he viewed the move as a demotion, as he was store manager at Rockville) and gave me only 3 days notice that he was leaving. This new guy seems very receptive to my ideas for the store, and is very enthusiastic about things. I've also lost my part-time office person to the warehouse--she's covering while our warehouse admin person (she receives all merchandise, schedules incoming trucks, coordinates outgoing trucks, calls all customers after delivery and deals with all issues firsthand) goes on maternity leave. So, right now, I'm working every day for a while. I will be pulling a salesperson to come into the office part-time (and stay in sales part-time), but I still have to find someone and train them. Ick. At least my December schedule isn't going to be as bad as I thought it would be--I was expecting to have only one day off for the month, excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day when we are closed. Things with Ian are wonderful though. We're still getting to spend some time together, albeit limited by our work schedules. We've found the apartment building where we want to live in South Beach, and we're going to work on some floor plan ideas to see if we can get on the same page decorating-wise. We're still undecided about moving furniture--if we move, it will most likely be a U-Haul move (unless I can strike a deal with the owner and pay him to rent one of our trucks and big burly delivery men). It will be expensive, it will be a pain to load/unload everything, and it will be a hell of a drive. But we would get to keep the Phyfe, the Waterfall bedroom furniture, and I could buy anything else needed prior to leaving at a kick-ass discount (and not just Bassett, but anything that can be ordered through Gladhill). If we didn't take the furniture, moving would be much much easier--just clothes and computer and books. We could probably move everything in one car. But then we'd have to buy furniture, and although we could then get anything delivered directly to the apartment, I wouldn't have my discount and it would be expensive to furnish the entire apartment. We're going to take another trip to Miami after the holidays to check out the apartment and look at our options in furniture--perhaps we can find a couple of great vintage furniture stores. We'll see. I'm also hoping to line up some interviews by that first trip down there. I've been looking for jobs there, but haven't started the great resume mailing yet, as I think it's a bit too far off of a move. Plus, with the holidays and work and cookies, I've got too much going on right now to add something else. I've got my resume and cover letter ready to go, I've got references lined up (I could use more!! I'm kickass!!), it will just be a matter of printing and postage to start mailing them out after the new year. posted by jaime | 5:56 PM 0 comments |
