Commencing With The Sharing

Alrighty, Aud, I'm commencing with the sharing. Below are the Florida photos. The first 2 are the view of Tampa's Harbor Island Bay at night, as seen from our hotel room. The next 6 or 7 are the same place, but during the day (also from the hotel room). The next series of pictures is from the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. Then we have pictures leaving the Port on the ship and pictures passing under the Florida Bay Bridge at night. After that are some pictures of the sunset that night, and a picture of the marina next to the Dali Museum.

Just getting the captions out of the way.

We arrived in Florida Friday evening; drove through downtown Tampa during rush hour, got lost several times, and eventually found our hotel. (During the lost wanderings, we found Ybor City and the Tampa Art Museum--currently showing works by Maurice Sendek, including all of the art from Where The Wild Things Are.) We did make it to our hotel--the Wyndham on Harbor Island. It was nice--plush towels, gorgeous lobby, soft comfy bed. It was a shame we couldn't spend more time there. The view from our window was incredible. We could walk out of the hotel and down to the harbor itself, which we did. We walked along the harbor before dinner--we ate at the very packed restuarant that was next door to the hotel (not the hotel restaurant...we had breakfast there, though). This restaurant was a place called Jackson's--a steak and sushi place--packed with locals, and definately the place to be. Ian got the best steak I've ever tasted there, and I had an incredible pasta dish--oak-grilled chicken and pasta with roma tomatoes and kalamata olives in a pesto-cream sauce. Ian and I were very stuffed after dinner (and very glad we walked around the harbor before said dinner). After a long day of airports and planes and traffic jams and waiting for dinner, we decided to call it a night.

The next day, we woke to an even more spectacular view of the harbor. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant overlooking said harbor before wandering to St. Petersburg to the Dali Museum. We spent the afternoon at the Dali Museum, enjoying all of the exhibits. Dali's work is incredible--I knew his paintings were intense, but I didn't realize that he did sculpture also. I could have spent days there, looking at all of the intricies in the paintings, comparing his works to the works that were on display by Jackson Pollock, and comparing those works to the art from the student exhibit. It was wonderful. But, our ship was leaving port, and we had to head out.

We reached the Port of Tampa early afternoon; it was full of cruise ships. I was expecting a big boat, but damn, I was floored at the size of the ships. I felt like a midget, even more so than usual. We made it through the check in process, got settled in our cabin, and made our way around to explore. We watched as we left the port and Tampa Bay, and watched the sun set. After dinner, we wandered around the ship, and saw the Florida Bay bridge in the distance. We stood on the top deck and watched as we approached--the bridge was lit up and against the dark of night, it was beautiful. Ian and I got pictures as we headed out from the bay to the ocean. After that, it was bedtime.
