![]() Tuesday, September 06, 2005 It's Only Illegial If You Get Caught The driver's side brake light on my car has burnt out, and has been burnt out since mid-July. I know that I should get it fixed, and I did have every intention of getting it taken care of today when I took Maybelle for an oil change. I mentioned it when I scheduled my appointment. I mentioned it again when I gave the guys my car keys. But it didn't happen today. The guys at the shop changed the oil, rotated my tires for me, and were going to change the bulb until they realized that to do so, they would have to take out the stereo system. That's right, the stereo system. To change the brake light. My CD changer is in the back of the car, on the driver's side, blocking all access to the brake light. It would take the guys about an hour to pull the stereo, change the light, and reinstall the stereo. At $77 an hour for labor, I just decided to risk getting pulled over for it, which hasn't happened yet. I will get it fixed at my next oil change, though, and in the meantime, if I do get pulled over, I'm going to play dumb. I mean, how often does a person really look at their brake lights? It's physically impossible for me to check the brake lights by myself--I can't hold the brake pedal down and be outside of the car looking at it at the same time. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. posted by jaime | 2:14 PM 0 comments |
